Description: Our 6th co-release with the good people at Velvet Blue Music. This is a rare mix of organic and electronic, pop and experimental and an effortless play of surprising elements. Birds & Batteries 2009 EP "Up To No Good" showed singer / bandleader Michael Sempert exploring synth-funk and the influences of Bowie's "Scary Monsters" and P-funk. On "Panorama," his love for artists like Harry Nilsson, ELO, and David Byrne shines through, and he trades in a bit of the irony for empathy. Sempert might as well be a scientist in his next life, as he is able to blend his classic folk-ish voice with synth textures for down right futuristic results. When pressed for a simple summary, he's described the sound as "Art-rock meets Tom Petty." Basically it's not all that easy to define. The new record conjures up blue skies and big views. It is heartfelt and bold and we think you'll actually feel better for hearing it.

For those of you unfamiliar with Doug Burr, we think this will be a great treat for your ears and soul. Burr resides in the beautiful city of Denton, TX, and is by no means a stranger to making music. "O Ye Devastator" is his 3rd release with us, which is the proper follow-up to 2007's much adored, "On Promenade". Between these 2 records Burr recorded a project called "The Shawl", which was a shimmering and heavy laden vision of the Psalms.

Description: It takes just the first few opening hollow piano notes of 'The Tide and The Current', produced by Will Johnson (Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel), to set in motion the idea that Telegraph Canyon is a band with purpose and craft. Voted #1 local album of 2009 by Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Reel Roots (Netherlands), Top 10 Texas Albums by KERA (NPR) and Best Area Album Release of the 2000’s by Dallas Observer. The song, “Shake Your Fist”, received #1 song of the year (Dallas Observer) and local song of the decade (Fort Worth Weekly). Tags like Southern Gothic/Dark Folk could be applied, but neither convey the earnestness and desperation of these recordings. The Shawl

Description: This is a new full length side-project from Mr. Burr. It was recorded in Tehuacana, TX at Texas Hall, an extremely worn building built in the 1860's. All the music is by Burr and Co. while the lyrics are lifted directly from the Psalms. Burr explains that these words have the universal ability to speak across generations, nationalities, and classes with authenticity and ache. Description:
Grab what few copies are left of this release. It will probably be the last Comet material you ever hear! Once sharing a label with Spiritualized, the Cranes and Beth Orton, Comet dropped their domestic debut record Chandelier Musings in October of '96 and March '97 in the UK. However, the band came to an unexpected halt after a tour-van accident on icy roads in Minnesota left the band splintered and disillusioned after returning home. In 2005, Comet returned after 8 years of
silence with Spune releasing the highly anticipated "feathers from the wing" EP. After only a few public appearances and shows around DFW and Austin, the band found itself back in the studios consumed in the writing phase. Unfortunately, this again has lead to another unexpected hiatus. The guys are involved in their own personal journeys with their families and enjoying life. Hopefully, one day we will again be able to soak in the beautiful, dreamy, noise pop songs that we've always loved from this band! CD available at select independent record stores and Spune Shop.
Jim Stone continues to write music under the moniker The Rain Horses.

Description:
The debut release from John LaMonica (My Spacecoaster, The Polyphonic Spree) features songs so sparse and frail they can only be described as haunting. Be careful listening to this as it has been known to make those who do disappear. "How Shall They Hear" is a collection of soul-inspired slow and somber acoustic guitar/piano arrangements. Think Red House Painters meets Low, perhaps, as interpreted by Will Oldman, Jeff Buckley and Nick Cave. This is a co-release with our friends from Velvet Blue Music.
